South Africa's Leading School for Sound Engineering, Music Production & Screen Media Education
Since 1997, the Academy of Sound Engineering has established itself as South Africa's premier sound engineering and media education institution, offering accredited, high-quality training in audio technology, music production, television, and screen media.
With a strong focus on real-world skills, industry-standard technology, and professional instruction, the Academy of Sound Engineering empowers students to launch successful careers in the dynamic worlds of music, broadcast, and entertainment.
Founded by industry veteran George Hattingh Snr, the Academy of Sound Engineering was born out of the need for formalised, high-quality sound engineering education in South Africa. Over the last two decades, more than 5,500 graduates have completed our programmes — many of whom now work for major media houses or as independent engineers and producers.
Our Johannesburg campus is uniquely housed within the SABC broadcast complex — the heart of Africa's television and audio industry. This prime location ensures students are immersed in real-world entertainment and broadcast environments from day one, working alongside industry professionals, producers, and engineers.
